An Empirical Examination of Live Analytical Systems in Improving Decision Precision and Adaptive Capacity

Abstract

The accelerating pace of business and technological change has heightened the strategic importance of real-time analytical systems in organizational decision-making processes. These systems, commonly referred to as live analytics platforms or dashboards, enable managers and executives to access dynamic, high-resolution data streams, facilitating rapid and evidence-based decisions. This research examines how live analytical systems influence decision precision and organizational adaptive capacity. Drawing on organizational learning theory (Argyris&Schön, 1978; 1996) and knowledge management frameworks (Argote, McEvily, & Reagans, 2003), the study conceptualizes decision precision as the alignment between executed decisions and optimal outcomes under varying contextual conditions. Adaptive capacity is defined as an organization's ability to respond efficiently to internal and external disruptions, leveraging insights derived from live data streams.

The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining empirical analysis of 120 firms across multiple sectors with case-based qualitative evaluations. Quantitative metrics include the accuracy of decisions in forecasting, resource allocation, and process optimization, measured against historical performance benchmarks. Qualitative data are gathered from semi-structured interviews with senior managers responsible for implementing and utilizing live analytics tools.

Findings reveal a significant positive relationship between the sophistication of live analytical systems and decision precision, mediated by managerial data literacy and organizational learning practices. Firms exhibiting integrated knowledge management systems and real-time analytics adoption display higher levels of adaptive capacity, particularly in volatile market conditions. The study also identifies implementation challenges, including cognitive overload, data quality issues, and misalignment between analytics capabilities and strategic objectives.

The research contributes theoretically by bridging live analytics literature with organizational learning and knowledge management frameworks, and practically by providing actionable guidelines for executives aiming to enhance decision quality and organizational resilience. These findings emphasize the critical role of technological infrastructure, managerial competencies, and organizational culture in maximizing the benefits of live analytical systems, highlighting both opportunities and constraints in contemporary managerial contexts (Singh, 2024).
